GET TO KNOW ME

HAIKANARUMI YAIS

I was born north of the south in a land of always blue skies, where flowers are born without spring being necessary. I was born and lived my childhood north of the south, in Venezuela. In the middle of my adolescence I moved to the United States, where I continued my high school studies and later trained as a midwife, until I became certified by the medical board of California where I currently live.

MY JOURNEY

At a young age I became interested in pregnancies, babies and childbirth. Largely thanks to the fact that my mother supported and accompanied different women in the process of management, pregnancy and birth and that my older brothers were born in natural births at home.

Since I was little I could see my mother supporting pregnant women mentally, emotionally, and physically, who in turn always maintained the dream of opening a maternity center. All of my mother's effort and dedication has served as an inspiration to study and practice this beautiful profession while honoring my mother's teaching and efforts.

MY STUDIES

I completed high school in Chicago, then moved to Washington and finally settled in Los Angeles. I am part of the LGBTQ community, I currently live in the South Bay with my partner and our two cats(Chicago & Boston) and one dog (Simba). I enjoy life and love being outdoors, swimming, traveling and sharing meals with people. In 2011, I began providing support to families as a labor support and postpartum doula in Chicago. After a few years attending births in hospitals and supporting families in the immidiate postpartum period, I consolidated my intentions of wanting to be a midwife for out-of-hospital births and offer a more personalized service. I officially enrolled in midwifery school at Bastyr University in WA, where I received my Master of Science in Midwifery in 2020. I completed my clinical training between the city of Los Angeles, California, and Washington State.

MY EXPERIENCES

I have been fortunate to have experience in different cities (Chicago, Washington State, Los Angeles) as well as a volunteer at a pregnancy center in Chiapas, Mexico. I continually attend midwifery conferences and gatherings, in a process of continuous learning and connect with other midwives. To date I have attended more than 200 births between hospitals, birth centers and home births, accompanying different experiences in different cities to which I have had the opportunity to visit.

It will always be an honor for me to be part of this sacred moment in people's lives, providing all the necessary support.
